RVing couples that place a high value on a big kitchen, tons of interior storage space, and appreciate a travel trailer with a Jack-and-Jill bathroom will love the 32-foot Forest River Cherokee Alpha Wolf 28FKL.
This new floorplan in the 2022 Forest River Cherokee line could very well be the top seller of this brand’s travel trailers. That’s because the Alpha Wolf 28FKL has the space and interior ambiance of a luxurious one-bedroom apartment.
Inside the 32’7″ 28FKL’s laminate-covered aluminum framework is a living space loaded with residential-type features that make it perfect for touring RVers who want the feel of an upscale apartment-on-wheels.
It also has the sleeping/seating capacity to accommodate a larger family or entertain guests. This Alpha Wolf 28FKL has great features everywhere you look.
Dual Entries For Added Privacy
The Alpha Wolf 28FKL has two entries, one into the master bedroom and the other into the main living area, both equipped with the popular MORryde Stepabove adjustable entry steps that fold up and store behind the doors when travelling.
The dual-entry is wonderful because it allows those in the main living area to come and go as they wish, without disturbing those in the bedroom, and vice versa.
As one Bish’s RV salesperson said, “A dual-entry camper is great for families that include a mix of early risers and late sleepers.”
A Well-Designed Layout
Enter the 28FKL via the forward door and the first thing you notice on the immediate left is a big frosted glass insert with “PANTRY” etched into it. This walk-in pantry is large enough to hang jackets and built with big, deep shelving flexible enough to store a ton of food goods and other gear.
On the opposite side of the entry is where Alpha Wolf’s designers placed the trailer’s electrical command center that features the new Bluetooth Smart Panel.
This feature allows touch control in all of the Forest River Alpha Wolf 28FKL’s lighting, solar charging, heating and A/C, two slides, awning, and entertainment system.
It also monitors all the vitals including trailer tire pressures. All of the commands and monitoring can also be done via a smartphone or tablet using the special App.
Lippert Components calls this touch-control/Bluetooth system One Control, and it’s fast becoming an industry standard because of what it contributes to RVer’s convenience and safety both on the road and camping.
An Inviting Living Area
The Cherokee line’s interiors are known for a number of nice “standard” features. Among those on the Forest River Alpha Wolf 28FKL are the cool Zebra Shades that can be adjusted to suit whatever lighting mood is required; the absence of annoying floor heater vents; a larger stove and oven; putting deep sliding drawers under the dinette; and employing high-volume vent fans to help better regulate interior comfort.
The most striking feature, other than the big slide that holds the sofa and dinette on the street side, is the size of the kitchen up front.
The seamless counter top stretches across the entire width of this trailer and angles rearward toward the curbside entry, stopping at the four-burner cooktop and big 11 cu.ft. stainless 12V fridge.
Food prep and feeding the hungry will never be an issue here. Neither will storage space.
There overhead compartments, drawers and cupboards at every turn, and even a place for bulky pots and pans under the deep farm-style, high-faucet sink. The Alpha Wolf also has a nifty cutting board that does double duty as a backsplash for the stove when it’s magnetic feet are set against built-in wall magnets.
All of the upper cabinet doors above the counter lift upward and hinge in place for easy access, while the drawers throughout the camper are mounted on quality roller slides. All the woodwork in the Cherokee Alpha Wolf 28FKL looks and feels upscale.
Sweet Seating & Shades
The main living area is also quite appealing. The wall slide holds a super-sized u-shaped dinette and a Jack-knife sofa. Both are comfortable and spacious, and both can quickly convert into sleeping areas for kids and guests.
Another nice touch is the use of colored indirect LED lighting on top of the big slide, and, as mentioned earlier, the Zebra shades over the living room windows can be adjusted up/down to set the natural lighting exactly the way one wants.
The LED lighting can be controlled from anywhere in the 28FKL using a tablet or smartphone through the Smart Control App.
While everyone is relaxing on the sofa or sitting around the big dinette, they can also be watching the large flatscreen TV mounted on the wall above the electric fireplace. These upscale home-like treatments are what set the Alpha Wolf apart from competitors.
The highlight of the bathroom is the spacious curved shower.
Privacy Par Excellence
Undoubtedly the nicest feature inside the new Forest River Alpha Wolf 28FKL is the privacy the master suite in the rear provides because of the placement of the bathroom and second entry door.
The bathroom can be accessed through a regular door from the living area as well as through a sliding door from the bedroom. This provides a great deal of privacy for both guests and the primary occupants alike.
The bathroom is fairly roomy with the radius shower commanding the largest portion of the valuable floor space. Its two-piece curved frosted shower doors and Water Miser shower system are nice touches that will be appreciated by everyone.
Roomy Master Suite
The 28FKL’s second slide moves the Queen bed several feet out from the closet dresser combo that takes up most of the opposite wall next to the camper’s second entry door.
The upper portion has two large, mirrored sliding doors that hide the clothes closet, while the lower portion contains drawers and flexible storage in the side cabinets. Of course, the bed lifts up to reveal more storage space hidden beneath.
Another nice feature I noticed is the matching built-in nightstands on each side of the bed.
Each has dual USB charging ports and 110V outlet so both parties have their own space to keep everything charged up.
Boondocking With Solar Power
Outside, the Alpha Wolf 28FKL has a pass-through storage compartment but little else in the way of external storage. That’s not a big concern with all of the interior storage options in this model.
The power stabilizer jacks, an option on the model I walked through, are very convenient, as are having 110V outlets on both sides of the trailer.
Up top the 28FKL is already setup with a 50W solar panel as part of what Cherokee calls the “Juice Pack.” It provides enough electrical power to keep the batteries trickle-charged. But not enough to power the 12V fridge when boondocking, which would require a larger solar array.
This particular trailer was equipped with the optional ($288) Juice Pack Expansion kit (100W panel), which would help with such off-grid camping.
If longer off-grid boondocking is on the docket, it’s recommended that a couple more panels be plugged in up top; the solar controller can handle up to 500W and all that’s required to run more solar power is mounting them on the roof and plugging them in to the pre-wired connection point.
Of course the Alpha Wolf 28FKL is right at home in any RV campground that offers 30-amp service and full hookups. It has plenty of fresh water and holding tank capacity to accommodate extended stays in locations that don’t offer hookups, too.
The 2022 Alpha Wolf 28FKL is a terrific floorplan for a couple that likes a lot of elbow room, or those with a family: The huge kitchen area, tons of inside storage, and the privacy afforded by the placement of the bathroom and dual-entry doors are appealing traits.
This travel trailer could very well be the favorite of the Cherokee line among discerning buyers. See for yourself at a Bish’s RV center location near you. – Bruce W. Smith
