Tips to Keep Your Family Safe While Tearing Up the Trails

At Bish’s RV we want your family out enjoying Mother Nature, creating memories and adventures that last. While doing that, we want you to be safe so you come home in the same shape you left. Following the below ATV safety tips will help keep your family safe.

Tip #1 — Wear safety gear

It’s no surprise that you use your brain while riding your ATV so keeping it safely inside your skull is a big deal. Before you and your family hit the trails, make sure everyone wears a helmet – every time, no matter what.

  • Remember that there is more to protective gear than your helmet
    • Goggles
    • Over-the-ankle boots
    • Gloves
    • Sturdy full-length pants
    • Long-sleeved shirt

Tip #2 – Follow the rules

You may have heard the popular phrase “rules are meant to be broken”; this is only true in the ATV world if you want to break other things including bones.

  • Stay on the trails and don’t ride on paved roads
  • Do not allow more riders than the ATV is designed for
  • Make sure you have the right size of ATV for the rider

Tip #3 – Know where you’re riding

  • Know the terrain that you’ll be riding and what to expect when you get there
  • Know the technical levels of the trail and if it is safe for all riders
  • Paying attention to the weather conditions is also important as adverse weather will create more challenges when riding
  • Anticipating the terrain will help riders know how to react, which will keep them safe and help them to enjoy the ride

Tip #4 Do a pre-ride inspection before each ride

  • Check for wear and tear on the tires, cable connections and chains
  • Apply lubricant as needed

Tip #5 Don’t ride alone

  • Because accidents can and do happen, make sure you ride with a couple buddies

Tip #6 Don’t ride beyond your abilities

  • Sometimes the testosterone gets to us and we are tempted to show off to family and friends. DON’T DO IT!
  • Most accidents happen when we are trying to ride beyond our abilities
