The single-most important part of any towable RV purchase decision is the interior layout, and Heartland’s 2022 North Trail 25RBP floorplan is a standout among the competition in a market flooded with 30-foot travel trailers.
Of course, every RV buyer looks at their next purchase with an eye toward certain areas that play a big role when they are spending days, weeks, maybe even months on the adventure road.
Trailer weight, price, warranty, dealer and manufacturer reputation, all play a critical role in that final buying decision.
But layout reigns supreme, especially the living room and kitchen area. That’s where we spend most of our time. High on my list is a spacious galley with lots of prep space and big fridge, along with a comfortable area to lounge and relax. A roomy bathroom is a bonus.
Heartland’s 2022 North Trail 25RBP floorplan is a standout among the competition because it checks off all those boxes—and more.
A spacious kitchen area
The first thing I noticed upon entering this model while browsing the dozens and dozens of tow-behind travel trailers at Bish’s RV Meridian, Idaho dealership is the spacious kitchen area.
The front kitchen area is rimmed with overhead cabinets, an overhead microwave, and a sea of residential-style lower cabinets topped by butcher block-style countertops.
I liked the location of the three-burner cooktop and big stainless sink with high-neck faucet, and the inclusion of two GFI wall outlets that make it easy to plug in electrical appliances. If you are the resident chef, this kitchen rocks.
Across the room from the food prep area is a roomy 10.7 cu.ft. freezer/fridge powered by either 110V shore power or by the trailer’s propane system. In addition to the overhead and under-counter cabinets there’s a tall, deep pantry next to the fridge.
This pantry has shelves and a pair of drawers at the bottom that roll out smoothly on high-quality, full-extension rails. Storage should not be an issue with this floorplan.
Some options really standard features
The dining table matches the counter tops and comes with a vinyl bench on one side and a pair of chairs on the other side. It’s a cozy arrangement tucked between the entry door and the kitchen counter. (Backing for a TV mounting is on the wall directly above and behind the bench seat.)
It should be noted here that when you are shopping for a 25RBP look closely at the list of Heartland’s features and options list. Read closely.
It’s there you’ll see the “Kitchen Package,” “Ultimate Entertainment Package,” and “Lightweight Strength Package” listed under the North Trail 25RBP “Options” section are “forced on all models.”
This means those items are not really options, but rather standard features.
North Trail 25RBP rear bath
Another area of the 2020 Heartland North Trail 25RBP that is really well done is the bathroom located at the rear of this trailer, separated from the living area by a practical and aesthetically pleasing sliding barn door.
The highlight of the rear bath of this roomy couple’s coach is the big vanity that has dual sinks and dual medicine cabinets.
This is a really nice feature that gives a “hers” and “his” separation many couples secretly desire when it comes to use of an RV’s bathroom.
The shower is roomy, the LED ceiling lights and ambient lighting from the shower skylight very efficient, and the monitor/control panel in the bathroom is a nice touch.
There’s also storage space in the bathroom between the linen closet next to the shower and cabinets under the vanity. Like I mentioned earlier, Heartland’s 2022 North Trail 25RBP floorplan is a standout among the competition.
25RBP King-size bedroom
On the opposite end of this North Trail camper is the king-sized bedroom, separated from the kitchen area by a space-saving sliding barn-style door.
Like the rest of this model, it’s carpet-free, using woven flooring and vinyl instead to ease upkeep and extend long-term wear.
The King bed takes up nearly ¾ of the bedroom leaving just enough room on the sides for the small nightstands that each have a handy 110V outlet for charging phones, tablets and laptops. Reading and LED lights are incorporated into the headboard cabinet setup that adds some additional storage.
On the dividing wall between the bedroom and kitchen is a convenient double-door wardrobe with an open storage cupboard on top. There’s also storage under the bed for bulkier items. Again, this layout seems ideal for a couple sending a long weekend or a couple weeks vacationing on the road.
Great exterior features
Heartland’s designer also took into consideration most RVers like to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible whether that’s entertaining guests with a BBQ, sitting around having great conversations, or enjoying what Mother Nature provides for recreation year-around.
The 25RBP, one of 15 different North Trail floorplans, has a 68-cu.ft. storage compartment in the lower portion of the one-piece fiberglass nose cap.
That gives this new North Trail floorplan one of, if not the largest pass-through storage compartment in this segment of travel trailers.
It’ll hold coolers, fishing and camping gear, skis, camp chairs and other bulky items with ease.
This model also has a nice outdoor camp kitchen and entertainment space on the curb-side rear that comes with a small fridge and nifty slide-out cutting board to expand the food prep area. I think every owner will make use of this new feature.
North Trail 25RBP build quality
Of course the 2022 North Trail 25RBP comes with many features standard on high-end camp trailers such as power tongue jack, all the requisite electrical, water and sanitation hookups for RV parks, generous 13.5K A/C, and prepped for back-up camera, TV and satellite upgrades/additions.
It also comes with a heated and enclosed underbelly, 30,000 BTU furnace, power stabilizer jacks, galvanized wheel wells, walkable roof, and two-inch-thick Azdel laminated sidewalls.
It’s built tough and built to endure winter outings or whatever season or your destination might entail.
Wide Trax suspension
Getting to the destination has also been made easier. This model of the North Trail comes standard with Heartland’s Wide Trax suspension, which means the tandem axles are located about nine inches farther apart than you’d find on a tailer with a conventional axle setup.
This 42-inch wheelbase, measured axle-center to axle-center, provides a more stable stance, which helps reduce the effects of trailer sway and smooths the overall ride of the trailer when towing.
That’s a big plus for many RV owners, especially those towing with ½-ton pickups where the 25RBP’s 8,600-pound GVWR might be pushing the vehicle’s upper towing limits.
