Living Area
The first thing you’ll notice is the spaciousness, thanks partly to the, slightly taller than industry-standard, 6’ 8” interior height.
You’ll have a beautiful view of the outdoors from the sofa. It also comes in two options: a tri-fold sleeper sofa or a larger three-place theater seat. The theater sofa even offers a bit of “cuddle compliance,” meaning it has a central armrest that can fold away for some cozy TV time.
The side stands on either side of the sofa have outlets that will help you make sure that your devices stay powered up during your outdoor adventure.
The TV is positioned straight across from the sofa for convenient viewing, but it is a tad on the high side. Here’s hoping future versions might feature a vertically adjustable TV mount.
Kitchen
The Access 28FK reimagines the front kitchen concept. Many RVs struggle with camp-side window placement in the front kitchen area. Not this Access! Winnebago added some camp-side windows, ensuring you won’t miss out on those views while cooking.
The curvature of the front of this RV has also led to a unique cabinetry design that maximizes storage space. Yes, you lose a front windshield, but in return, you get a lot more cabinet space.
As for cooking, there’s no propane oven, but there is a built-in convection air fryer/microwave – perfect for whipping up quick meals on the go.
You will spot a slip lip on one of the dining table seats, but not the other. This is because there is a heat run below one seat.
Bathroom Features
The 28FK’s bathroom prioritizes comfort with its porcelain foot flush stool. There’s plenty of hip, shoulder, and elbow room, to ensure you won’t feel cramped.
The counter space is also noteworthy. For those who’ve had mirror-cabinet collisions in compact bathrooms, the Access offers a solution. The mirror is placed on the wall, with plenty of space from a cabinet to ensure you don’t bang your head when bending. The added towel bar is a nice touch too.
While the bathroom as a whole is great, there’s a quirk in the shower. Even though the camper’s interior is about 6’9″ tall, the shower ceiling is shorter and feels like it’s designed for someone who’s under 6’6,” perhaps due to the plumbing beneath.
Bedroom Features
The bed size is impressive: a true queen bed, measuring 60” x 80”.
It’s worth noting that the 2024 series will have inverter prep for household outlets.
The under-bed storage, equipped with gas struts, is well done, and there’s also a small space that could serve as a pet den or laundry basket holder.
The bedroom does, however, feel slightly dark – an additional light would be a welcome enhancement.
Other Features:
- TV prep in the bedroom corner.
- A small power vent fan on the ceiling/roof.
- Direct access to the bedroom and bathroom without engaging the slide.
Road Mode: Towing and Travel Access
With an 800-pound GVW, this RV feels on the cusp of being half-ton towable.
Front kitchens, especially with a slide-out, can make the hitch weight spiral, so you need to be thoughtful about what you add. If you’re a camper who prefer to pack light and move efficiently, you may find this balance between ½ ton and ¾ ton towing capacity ideal.
On the brighter side, the battery disconnect is conveniently located, and the RV is mounted on a Huck bolted frame. Huck bolted frames are stronger than the typical welded frame.
Exterior
Let’s break down some of the exterior features:
- Awning covers both entry doors.
- Prepped for a telescopic, removable ladder.
- Voyager backup camera prep (though the 2024 models will likely switch to Furrion rear and side view camera prep).
- 200-watt factory solar package with a 30-amp charge controller.
- Rear cargo receiver hitch that accommodates up to 350 pounds.
Potential Problems
- Towing and Hitch Weight: Front kitchens can lead to increased hitch weight. While it’s potentially half-ton towable, you must be careful about the specific truck being used and the conditions of travel.
- Even though the RV is described as having a 6’ 8” interior height, the shower is closer to 6’6” tall.
